It's Pretty, Have to Give it That

Hello from Utah. Consider this your postcard - it's not that I am too cheap to buy stamps, but all I can find are pictures of Brigham Young. Wish I had something exciting to report, but the class I am taking up here is pretty intense and leaves me kind of wrung out. So far the height of my evenings here was last night when I used the motel's laundry room. Yep, that's me Mr. Excitement!

Did eat at a bizarre burger joint. The place promised "gourmet burgers," but here in Utah gourmet means Mayonnaise instead of ketchup. The strange part, and I expect their attempt at a theme of sorts, is that you have a phone at your table with which you phone your order in. The pointless part is that you are never more than about 50' from the kitchen, and you can hear the person taking your order from where you are sitting without the phone. Hang up the phone, wait, and when it rings again your order is done. Despite the rather useless ordering method, the hamburgers are pretty good.

Hope you all are doing ok, I promise to visit soon!!

Pretty...Cold

As cold as it is I have to admit it is beautiful out here. The scenery is outstanding!

But it's a Dry Heat

I should throw a party, it is our first official 100 degree day. I don't mind the heat that much but then I do have the option of going in doors when the mercury hits the top of the glass. The guys that impress me are the dudes roofing houses. Scampering around on black tar paper while they set roof tiles has got to be pretty damn uncomfortable. Then there's the firemen loaded own with gear fighting a roaring fire no matter what the temp outside. Don't know how they do it, grabbing the brass doorknob that has had the sun beating down on it all day was enough excitement for me.

The temps look to drop a bit towards the end of the week, so I have that going for me,which is nice. I have a trip to Utah coming up and I am just hoping it doesn't snow. Been a while since I've had to drive in the white stuff and I can't say I miss it. The big thing will be dealing with the colder temperatures, I have become a real wuss when the thermometer dips anywhere below 60F...

Easter Morning Come and Gone

For some Easter is a time of renewal, and that is great, for me it is a chance to eat cookies for breakfast and not get scolded or feel guilty. Mrs. Phos slaved over a hot oven to bring us the traditional Italian Easter cookies for breakfast. The cookies were originally very ornate - the ones her Mother made were shaped like fancy crucifixes with a hard boiled egg braided into them. The cookies we had for breakfast are now oval, to represent an Easter Egg and each one has the recipients name piped on top.

Now to fire up the grill to cook up a standing rib roast for dinner and we're all set. The best thing about the holiday for me, aside from eating cookies, is the fact Tiny House is full again, kids, grandkid, grandkid about to be, grandpuppies and lots of laughter.

Hope you all have a great Easter...

Random Pictures

Gave my small digital camera to Mrs. Phos and picked up a new one to take its place. I like having a camera that just slips in my pocket for everyday Kodak moments. I put the new camera through its paces and so far I am pretty impressed.

A little More Red in the US Flag Nowaday

I usually don't like to thievematerial from others, but this was too good to pass up, a picture of our First African American President, Comrade Obama. Between Queen grabbing, bowing to a Saudi Prince, and apologizing for the US when no apology was due, this man is showing his true colors, and there's no white and blue involved. He's the best politican money can buy, just ask AIG and the UAW.

A Taxing Weekend

Yep, that time of the time again, tax day is rapidly approaching and the IRS is licking their tax fattened chops. Have to give Cesar what is Cesar's, but why do the forms have to be such a bitch tofill out. I wish the Feds would just take their pound of flesh and that si it. No deductions, or obscure rules or videos on the tax software that may as well be in Chinese. I'll watch some of them several times and it is pretty much like a baboon watching "A Midsummer's Night Dream." Sooner or later we push the send button and just pray we didn't miss something that will come back to bite us later.

I am hoping to convince Mrs. Phos we need to get out a bit and hit the new Greek place again. Want to make sure the first Gyro I had there wasn't a fluke and the rest will be as good.

Thrill o' the Grill

Realize what my problem was - I haven't fired "Ol' Smokey" up in a while, so I remedied that tonight and grilled up a batch of drumsticks. Kind of Teriyaki - would have been more so if I would have allowed them to marinate overnight, but they were ok. Two things I havew lawyas loved is fishin' and grillin'. The two even work pretty well together, although a hot grill in the boat is probably a bad idea. Not that I'd ever try anything like that. Would be cool to catch the fish and toss it right on the grill though...

Don't get to fish out here, but I can grill year round. I wish I could get the stores to understand that all season is grilling season out inh these parts and there's no reason to tuck the grill supplies away to make room for the school shit. Even when I lied in snow country I was out grilling, even if I had to shovel the grill out of a snowbank. For my money you can;t beat the taste of food off the grill. Even better, if one has the time, is to do a slow smoke with a pork shoulder, ribs, or just about any cut of meat. That smokey flavor is about the best thing I can think of. In fact as a bonus I usually get to smell just like the hickory or mesquite smoke when I am done, talk about men's cologne!!
