Rainy Day Phos

The clouds rolled in last night and we got rain throughout the night and into the morning.

It has been threatening all day - we have a T-Storm watch in effect right now. I hope we can coax some more rain out of this Low, but that remains to be seen.

The high point of the day was a trip to the dump. We had some bulk rubbish to get rid of and hauled it to the lot next tot the El Mirage fire department. The city had the site all set up so you could queue up and then dump your trash. It was quite a production and went very smoothly. Despite the large number of trucks (we were one of the few who pulled up in a minivan) we got through in good time.

The best part is that afterwards we got to go to Chen Wok for lunch and talked with one of the owners. He shared some of their moon cake with us and explained the history behind them - it was a lot of fun.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!!!

the
high point
of any day, phos,
is a trip to the dump

it isn't the place, so much as the unloading of rubbish from one's life

I hope you get rain. We've been getting a lot, but we need it. Maybe if we get too much we can send some to you.

The second photo doesn't look real. Very pretty.

I love going to the dump. It's almost as good as a good flea market.

I had the opposite experience with our city's hazardous household waste drop-off today. TWO HOURS in the line-up. Bleurgh. But it's good to be rid of the stuff and to know it's being disposed of properly.

But on the good side, I finished painting my front steps

phos,

yep, the collecting
of other peoples' rubbish
into one's life is right up there

here in canada, we do 'garage sales', where every weekend, folks put up a SALE sign and sell you all of the junk that is collected in their garage... much of which came from other peoples' garage SALEs -- but you have to be sharp -- folks in this town will sell you their used razor blades (true story)...

Up here, the dump is home to a huge flock/murder of ravens, even during the depths of winter. They're well organized, and I notice they have posted a series of sentries starting about a mile off. The other highlight of our dump is the corner where they dump the liquid waste from 260 households onto the tundra.

ll: My thoughts exactly - the Great Phos canal that extends from the East to the Southwest - we can tap off all your flood water and use it to water our grass.

chickie Because of the dust, haze, and bright sun all the skies appear to be painted on. The skies on the South Dakota prairies were like that too.

dak: Get togethers are a hoot, glad you had fun!!

wrath:I could see the potential for a cluster flop, but the city did a great job of organizing it - if it had been "every man for himself", it would have been a disaster. Don't step on the wet paint!!

/t.: One man's treasure... We have garage sale here too, but I figure I have enough of my own crap. Seems we get buried in the stuff. Such is the evil of a consumer driven economy.

nanuk: Welcome back!!! I see the potential for a new fragrance line - "Eau De Tundra". Kind of rolls of the tongue, doesn't it???

like a good storm and rain, I wait that they come fast. I am tired of as much heat.
I hope that also rains there.

keshi: Thanks! Funny thing - I was looking up recipes for moon cakes but they seem to be like snow flakes - no two are alike!!
