That Time of the Year Again

Monsoon Suite

Monsoon winds
Tip over
The Lemon Tree

Wall of Dust
Propelled West
By July winds

Dry Wash
Scoured clean
Flash Flood

Rivers where no rivers
Lakes appear
Rain in the desert

The wind
Knocks at my door
Plays with chimes

Taste of dust
Freshening winds
Desert on self-clean

FS: It is actually a lot cooler here. 120+ was common when I was in Kuwait. In Bahrain, an island, the humidity was nasty. Funny thing - the wind actually made it hotter - It swept along the desert floor picking up all the heat (and sand) and brought it all along.

My first desert experience was working flight operations on the B1B Lancer project in Palmdale, California. Growing up in the Rocky Mountains in a small mining town the 112 degree summer desert heat took a little getting used to.

Sugarfoot: My first taste of desert living wasn't far from yours! I was stationed at George AFB near Victorville, CA.

I also taught at a tactics school at Ellsworth were the fruit of your efforts, the B1-B is stationed.

SL: It does feel like a self-cleaning oven, at times!

I like the colours in the pic...do those specifically warn of danger? (Like the deathly silence before a midwestern tornado.)

JIN: The old poem goes:

Red Sky at night, sailor's delight
Red sky in morning, sailor take warning
Red sky at noon, sailor start drinking soon

It serves as a good rule of thumb for figruing out what the weather might be up to, though it isn't 100%.
