Gnat of Glass is a Genius!!

First off, thanks Gnat! What a beautiful piece! I have a great spot for it in my curio, right up front. It is wonderful, thank you so much!!

Second, Thanks to all for dropping by, I have been playing catch-up with work, stuff left undone before vacation, et al. It was tough to go back to work, vacation was very nice, though it flew by. Wish work went by that fast!!

Haha... My wife calls the design "Softserver Paperwieghts". She says it reminds her of softserve icecream cones.

I work with blown glass at a public arts center and rent out all the equipment for about 5 hours at a time. I am currently building a shop and should have it all built in about 2 months. I hope...if it ever stops storming here.

This one was done with what is called an optic twist to put the blue lines in it. It is sliver based blue glass over just a little bit of white to make it pop a bit.

Phos won this paperweight for coming up with a contest for my site. IE> he won the contest to figure out the next contest. That is a bit twisted, but the logic was sound at the time.

Anyway, I am having the next contest to win a piece of glass next week. It is going to be a big custom hand made drinking glass. Or as I like to call them "Beer Tumbers", and if you win you get to pick the colors. I have a picture of what one looks like on my most recent post.

Come on by, everyone is welcome to participate in the contest. I just do it for fun so I am not making things to sell all the time. Phos was the first place winner and got that paperweight, Jewels and Plum got second and third. They both got marbles.

Wow..this was a long post hope Phos does not mind me putting up a link to the site. If you do just strip it off.

I can make them in all colors. I am crazy like that! Actually pink is very popular.

All color in glass is made with chemicals and base elements.

Basic break down:

Silver = Blue
Copper = Aquamarine/Green
Iron = Green
Arsenic = White
Magannese = purple/black
Gold = Pink/Canberry
Red = Cadium

Go figure the girls would like blues and pinks best eh? Somehow I believe they know they are made with silver and gold....I will have to make a whole post on color make up now..thanks for the idea.

keshi:I think we should have T-shirts made that say “Work Sucks”. Never has anyone made a more profound statement. Hope you dig your way out of the pile o’ work and visit again!!!

Caramaena: Sometimes it seems as though we never actually went on vacation. The memory blurs quickly.
Gnat is amazing and to think it is his hobby. Imagine what he could do full time??

tkk: I’ll bet he’d be happy to make it any color you want!! Pink would go nice with your site, though…

DAK: Aside from delighting the eye, it holds papers in place under extremely windy conditions.
It always seems as though everything works fine until I go on vacation – everything breaks down while I am gone and I spend the first few days drying tears and fixing gear.

/t.:Hey /t.!! Thanks for the wishes. AS nice as it way to be away, it is nice being back as well. I am slowly making the rounds… Best regards to you and yours as well!!

Gnat: Looks like we’ll be calling it a “Gnat” from now on. “My goodness, what a delightful looking Gnat, where ever did you get it?” or “That Gnat sure comes in handy when the wind tries to blow my papers away”. My “Gnat” is the best, however, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really love it and the Gnat has the honor of being the first piece of actual fine art on display the Tiny House.

Oh I'm jealous now. I want my mini Gnat too! :(

LoL!

It's gorgeous Scott, you did a fabulous job. I can totally see the soft serve ice cream swirl.

Nice to have you back Phos. Hello there Mrs. Phos! You both have a beautiful grandson there. Cute as a button!

Nice paperweight. We have a pretty famous glassblowing studio where I live and I love watching them make all their things...it's cool! (well, actually, it's hot, but you know what I mean!! =)

Thanks. I am going to use the Gnat to replace the BLU-91/B "Gator" antitank mine I was using. They are both blue, but the Gnat is far and away the prettiest and a lot less lethal.

That Gnat is spectacular!

And yes-this was intended to be read/interpreted any number of ways!

Welcome back Phos!
