Deserted

I yak about the desert incessantly, thought it was time I show you what it looks like...

I managed to get out before the day got too hot, and we had enough rain to knock some of the dust and dirt out of the air so the sky was fairly clear. I'll try to post more like these as the weather cools - probably around October, the way things have been going!!!

When you think about a desert, you think about sand. Wheres' the sand?

I've been hiking in Arizona several times and despite the heat I thouroughly enjoyed it.

kate: Thanks! You have a nice evening as well!!

ll: No sand, just rocks and dirt. There are places that have dunes, but not near by. Want to see dunes, check out Whitesands National Monument.

hammer: AS long as the hike is in early Spring or late fall it can be enjoyable. In the summer the rescue squad is busy pulling tourists off the mountainside after they collapse from dehydration.

/t.: In my shoes...

I've never seen the sandy deserts which seem to be popular among the commenters myself. This kind of terrain I know.

Nice photos.

I've been to White Sands when my Air Force uncle lived in Mew Mexico.

sj: There are spots in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts where dunes collect, usually at the base of mountains.

/t.: The sand is from other people's deserts and I don't plan on going back...

evalinn: Right you are. At fist glance there doesn't seem to be much going on, but there is lots of life. Most of it will scratch, bite, or sting you, but it is there.

keshi:I feel lonely sometimes as well, oddly enough, but then I remember I have all of you then everything is ok.

ll: Alamogordo and Holloman AFB aren't far away from Whitesands. That is an interesting area.
