Cameras

I buy one more camera and Mrs. Phos is going to hit me with a stick. Problem is I am searching for a small point-and-shoot I can easily schlep with me. Originally went with a Canon Sureshot because I've had a lot of luck with Canon cameras. I have two DSLRs that work well and an S3 that is smaller but takes some real crisp shots, even at long range. Too big for my pocket, however. The Sureshot ws horrid. The lag time after tripping the shutter was horrendous and cycling between shots, particularly with the flash was too long to be of any use. I am carrying a pentax now and though it isn't as small as I'd like, I am pretty impressed so far...

Decisions, decisions, decisions, to buy a new camera or have Mrs. Phos hit you with a stick? Which one will win out?

I would like something compact that I can carry around in my handbag to capture some great shots that I always see when I dont have a camera...
I'm thinking about a digital Nikon Coolpix,8.megapixels, video, zoom lens,flash...some of the features I dont understand but I'm sure I will work them out and its within my price range. ♡

I've got marks from many encounters with Mrs. Phos's stick. Best thing is to start with reviews, but I have found they are not always reliable.

the nikon
coolpix L18...
now the L19, i think...
is my current choice for compact
weapon of mass photofication -- 8+ megapixel, video, etc. etc., and absolutely foolproof AUTO -- point and shoot genius in your pocket -- priced here in canada at about $125 + another $35 for 4GB flash card

I'll have to check that out after Mrs. Phos calms down from the Pentax Optico E60.

Doug's got a pretty nice 8 Magapixel Canon. Unfortunately we live in Baltimore, so the only things we can take pictures of are giant rats, slums, and burning cars. Oh well!

Thanks all! I've been wanting to get something a whole lot better than I have, and all your suggestions here are awesome and welcome guidance! Thanks Phos! And if I were you, I'd bribe one of the doggies to bury that stick!

I use cheap hand-me-downs. Have for years, now.
Sure, I curse a lot because I snap the picture of the hummingbird, and oh...fifteen minutes or so later the camera actually takes the picture (click) and now i have a beautiful picture of the floor of my car, or my pocket.

I give a lot of jusitification to film cameras, especially when fast button pushing equals a good picture.
You had bees on the cactus flowers. That's impressive.

I hear that if you have the extra $1500 to spend on good equipment, it's well worth it. Fast shutter response, wonderful assortment of lenses, a handy French gal to walk around with you and hold your camera bag. (well, dang! For $1500 I would HOPE it comes with a French gal to hold my camera bag!)

One of my favorite cameras is my Russian 35mm Lomo. Just a pain waiting for the film and if the picture is of say, the car floor, we just wasted a shot.
