Not A Vulture
My picture taking forays have been kind of limited, but despite working on an Air Force base, there is quite a bit of wild life. This quail was out looking for food, his partner wasn't hanging out to find out what I was up to. The picture came out better then I had hoped, I was up on a bridge with my Canon S3 and the quail was quite a ways away.

I remember walking through the woods and having the shit scared out of me by a flock? of quail suddenly escaping out of the bushes in front of me.
I never knew they were that colorful.
:-) This IS a nice pic Phos.. enjoy the pic taking and be back soon!
wow ... you actually saw a quail. they are so shy and so well camouflaged when hiding.
your canon has a good zoom.
great camera!!! and good that you shoot these things with a camera and not like my neighbor... well he's one of many hunters around here and so the dead bodies keep piling up from time to time... or like my son, he kind of doesn't really get why you should slow down in order not to run over the wild life... which can get rather costly...
am on my way north, hope, not to freeze my butt off too much this time...
Nope, not a vulture.
This is a Gambel's Quail. There are quite a few on base. There are a lot of times I have to stop the car to let mom, dad, and the little ones cross the road. They are pretty cute, but LL is right they aren't vultures.
Why don't you eat them?
quail quills
are quite queer
but that's another story
good pic, phos
/t.
You can eat 'em, they're pretty good in fact. The breast is the only part that has any meat on it though.
