Look but Don’t Touch

It is that time of the year again when a lonely cactus’s mind turns to –well, sex. Normally not a showy plant this all changes as the cacti flower in hopes of reproducing. Below are a couple of pictures…

A variety of Prickly Pear (Opuntia)

Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea)

They are stunning. I rather like the type that are used to make tequila too. Yum!

Thanks. I got sick on tequila once long ago, now even the smell makes me ill. I am not a big liquor drinker anyway so I don't miss it.

I miss the cactus garden we used to have. All we have here is prickly pear.

keshi: They are loads of laughs if you are barefoot

LL:Thanks!!

dak: We used to cut the pods on the prickly pear growing in the Wisconsin River valley open and eat the purple gel inside – goods stuff, well worth a few small spines stuck in your fingers.

Kirsten: Thanks, I will be right over…

/t.: The one in your picture is a prickly pear. They grow on the Western plains, but we actually have them in Wisconsin as well.

hammer: And as a bonus they keep the neighbor kids out of the yard!
