Getting Porked

Well, "Spendulus," the new stimulus (now a stimulus and spending bill) package is about to make a debut. Kind of reminds me of people who max out their credit cards then run out and apply for a new one so they can keep on buying crap, but our First African American President assures me it will make everything all right, so who am I to argue, aside from one of the schmucks that will wind up picking up the tab. Interesting to see how free the gov't is with our money, as well as my grandchild's money because it will take a very long time to pay this debt off and that is considering the gov't doesn't decide they need yet another stimulus package down the road. I understand tax cuts don't work, but I don't see how throwing money at a problem will help either. If the gov't was serious they would push to abrogate NAFTA and nay other trade agreement we have blundered in to and go back to only trading with countries that will give us the same breaks we give them. If the gov't was serious about fixing the problem where is a cut in the payroll tax that would put more money in my pocket, where is the ire over the present illegal immigrant situation and the passage of a tough Buy American clause that would put more jobs out thee for us.

The present package is nothing but a big steaming pile of partisan pork, much of it liberal desires that have been thwarted over the past eight years or so. Why aren't the American people up in arms over their representative'sintransigence? And above all what has happened to the independent revolutionary spirit in this country, the work ethic that dictates you work hard to make your way up the ladder?

I do hope some good comes of Spendulus, but I have some severe doubts. I do believe a little revolution now and again helps keep a republic healthy and that we are long overdue.

Get yoreself a Wolverine tee shirt yet? Heh.

I'se hearin' every word ya say...similar on mah BACK porch right now.

But the thang I'se worriet fer the most is the tippin point--when so many folks work fer the gubmint--local, state fed, or have contracts wif' big gubmint, then their weight is heavier at the polls than those who do non-gubmint work--this is dangerous,as it leads to gubmint as the controller of all-an then we's serfs of the state.

I'm not sure what you mean by "work" when you say that you know "tax cuts don't work".

Will they instantly solve the problems the GOVERNMENT caused through Fannie And Freddie and then made worse with TARP?

No.

Have they proven time and time again to boost productivity and National Competitiveness while reducing unemployment?

Yes.

After reducing taxes, do Governments face a choice between reducing wasteful pork-barrel obsolete spending programs or racking up huge deficits?

Yes.

Have many State and Local Governments and the Federal Government opted for the HUGE DEFICIT option?

Yes.

Does that mean tax cuts are at fault?

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

TAX CUTS GOOD. WASTEFUL SPENDING BAD.

I still ain't ready to throw rocks, yet. I'm still trying to figure out ways to make things better.
Hard work scares so many people, though. Especially younger folks. I truly think that this might be a decent first step (though I've pretty much been against a bail-out all along. If we just hadn't given Bush junior so much rope with which to hang us all out to dry...and, no. That ain't political! I can't help but to notice that the cost of the bail-out is so danged close to the cost of the 'war on terrorism in iraq'!)
the thing is, they're trying their bast to keep as many people working as possible by any means possible.
(Anybody got a better idea? Cause besides all the bitchin' about the new president, I hear nothing.)
Don't just sit down to watch if it works or not, though.
It still isn't time to sit down.

As someone who was watching Pres Obama give his victory speech from well beyond your borders, I thought he made it perfectly clear that you'll all pay for Americas misfortune when he said, "I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way its been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years - block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand."

I agree we need to rebuild, but without the people who are now in charge. Before you can rebuild brick by brick, stone, by stone, you have to remove the rotted material.

Now, now, Phos. It wasn't the people who are currently in charge who created the problem.

Although, I do remember being part of a business who had financial trouble because they weren't capturing the market they intended. They sought out the best advice, from the great minds in the industry, on how to fix the problem. Of course, they were the same people who had designed the disaster in the first place. No-one seemed to think that odd. Which was odd, you know.
