Bad Things Happen to Good Computers

My posting will be a bit sketchy the next few days. Either the main SATA drive or the controller has shuffled off this mortal coil. I am typingt his on my mini-note, but with my eagle sharp vision and the size of the screen it is tough to write much at one time. That and most of my pictures are stored on a secondary data drive. I think I'll be able to get to them once I fgure out the exact problem.

We are also babysitting our grandpup and our grandson so I don't have alot of time to fool with the machinery. Hopefully I will be back in business soon...

I feel for ya. thanks to the "miracle" of Windows Vista, my laptop sometimes refuses to connect to the internet without first being rebooted a bunch of times. So I am then forced to blog from my cell phone. Egads!

so, with the old Ford truck, I get out , cuss a lot, kick it sometimes, but, not whole heartedly (first off, it has gotten some nice loads of wood to home, second ...it's harder than my foot)
So, let's see...a computer, huh?
Tap it a couple of times to let it know that you have heard of the Ford truck method.
Suggest that it may end up on eBay....that straightens out a LOT of equipment around here.
Carry it by a computer store. Let it look in the window.

Question is, where in Camen San Diego are you? NC, Wisc. ?
NMB?

I think one of my memory m0dules, much as my own memory, has gone bad. I've gotten the POS to recognize the drives, but it takes a dump just before the O/S loads. May be just a corrupt Vista file (like that could ever happen with such a fine O/S)

Phos... There's a diagnostic utility that's part of Vista that (on my laptop at least) reports 239 aspects of the OS that do not function correctly.

It amazes me that this OS got released. I'm buying a MAC next time! Aiiieeee!!!

Enjoy the important things in life like grandsons and grandpups. The computer will wait. And so will your adoring fans.

Make it a great one.

SATA
drives
have a thin
red cable connection
without any 'clips' (unlike previous drive connections)-- i've had one come loose -- have also had my vista bootmgr file become corrupted (???) and used a bootable vista CD to repair it

good luck

sounds like you just wanted to watch Arizona stomp on Dallas without computer interference.

Well, you are a happy camper.
(why I asked NC, I dunno. It should be, Arizona or Wisc.)

none the less...thanx.

Still here, took Jack's advice and am spending time playing with my grandson, visiting with my son and his wife, and breaking up a fight between Cashew (grandpuppy) and Yukon. Yukon got the worst of it, but his ear will heal fine. I sustained a bit of collateral damage to my leg, merely grazed by someone's fangs. We are now keeping both dogs in neutral corners.

It has been fun so far. There'll be a lot fo work for me to do - all I did in WI was eat and drink beer, and so far this has been a repeat. Got to get back to training for the next Olympics, but it'll have to wait until after everyone is gone and life returns to "normal," whatever that is!
