Desert Huskies

One question that almost always comes up when I say I have huskies is how they keep cool in the summer. Yukon has his own personal fan and spends a lot of quality time with it in the summer. Austrella is mixed with something so she has very short fur and likes to lie in the sun and work on her dog tan.

We also keep out a lot of fresh water and keep the A/C going for the pups. The other cooling technique is more natural - they shed big time.

Now if we could find a way to generate electricity from fallen fur dog owners could be sheiks.

So some pooches like the sun while others like the fan.

yep,
dogs are great,
except for the shedding...

and crapping in the yard, and the vet bills, and... well, you know

lambs are good, though not so much with fetch

I have Akitas in Florida. They don't grow the typical Akita Coat in the "winter" so there isn't THAT much shedding in the Summer.

I know an Artist who might buy some of that surplus fur!

I love huskies.

Lambs can learn fetch...little lambs can, I'm sure.

Speaking of shedding, you can tell it's spring around here. The cat hair is almost coming out in clumps! I need to go vaccuum.

Lola-Beastie sheds a lot too. Gotta dig the labrador/corgie hybrid. :)

I like your desert huskies too. Very cute!

sj: When it gets dry, petting huskies does generate electricity

fuff: Wooooooooooooo!!

ll: Yes, the best of both worlds.

/t.: Don't forget digging up the back yard, eating the bathroom door, and the mournful howl of loneliness. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. So you are saying lambs aren't fetching?

troll: Akitas are nice dogs in most circumstances. One of my friends had one he kept in his barn until one day it broke through the stall wall and killed all his chickens.

foam: We knew a woman that had a Samoyed and would spin the fur into yarn and make sweaters.

Ruela: We've had people tell us when they die they want to come back as our dogs. The pups are a wee bit spoiled.

Pink: Huskies could fetch lambs, but only once.

du: Cats don't last too long around here. Both Yukon and Austrella view them as fair game.

indigo: The only breed I can think of off hand that doesn't shed are poodles. We have gotten used to the fur and having the dogs for company makes it all worthwhile.

yeah you got to love those pups - mine were so exited that mommy is home. Despite them having short hair they still shed between them and the cats I have plenty of fur for sweaters so if there are any takers you can have it

mine like to lay in the sun - the cats too

Ah, dog tan! ;-) Our dog is working on the same thing. That he already is brown by nature doesn´t seem to bother him...
