BoBo Chinese Restaurant

Exterior - don't forget to stop by Mabel's Wig Emporium when you are done eating!
Well, you didn't come for the ambiance, only the food...
You won’t need tux and tails for this place, but if you are after some good Chinese food at reasonable prices you can’t go wrong. I usually get the Pork Egg Fu young, but his time opted for BoBo Chicken and my wife had lunch with the general – General Tso that is. I have to admit the BoBo chicken wasn’t all that great. Most Chinese restaurants serve this dish under one guise or another, breaded pieces of chicken that has been fried. I have even had duck prepared this way. Chen Wok has the same dish served with a sauce. The General’s chicken came off much better. It was just about right on as far as sweetness and heat. The dish is very reminiscent of their Kung Pao - most excellent.
The Soup - as Charlie Bucket's mom said in In Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, "Nothing goes better with cabbage then more cabbage"
BoBo Chicken
General Tso's Chicken

The egg roll was cliché, and between that and the egg drop soup I had my adult weekly requirement of cabbage. None of the cabbage was wasted. The rice served with both dishes is a fried rice, it is quite good, butt he wonton was so hard I think you could have used it to cut glass. Despite this I can still recommend the restaurant as most of the dishes are well executed.

Jin: That is indeed the most patient woman in the world. That is her "Oh my god he's going to take pictures of his food again look.

I would like to trade disaster stories with you , by the way - next blog I will go first and describe the holocaust potatoes I made tonight. I know you are great at what you do, the pictures are living proof, but there have to be some really great cake bloopers...

T&B: The house chicken at Chen Wok is like that too - the chicken is wodnerful by itself so we learned to ask for the sauce on the side and just dip the chicken a bit.

Heeheehee!!! Funny you should mention that...just last weekend I made two pans (9"x13") of bars, a new recipe which, in theory, sounded great, they looked beautiful, & tasted worse than (I imagine!) dog shit!

I don't know if you ever get the King Arthur Bakers Catalog...it was the pink lemonade bars on the cover. SO GROSS!!! They looked so perfect too.....I usualy toss things like that in the yard for the birds, squirrels, opossums, etc. But I honestly didn't even think they would touch them! LOL

That does give me an interesting idea for a post someday...I have, of course, had a few flops when trying new things. That doesn't make me any less PERFECT than I am, though...so don't go taking advantage of my spur 'o the moment addmittance!

Jin: Avoid pink food - remember when someone brought donuts? The maple one and the two pink donuts are always left in the box. No one wants to find out what pink tases like. As far as the potatoes, just let me say never place them directly over the coals

Funny relationship - me and Chinese food: since I was raised on my Stepmother's native cooking since infancy (she was born and raised in China), it took a very long time, once I was grown and on my own, to (a) start eating Chinese food again, and then (b) become accustomed to what Americans were calling "Chinese Food"! Not that it was bad - just very different than what I had grown up on!

EC: You were so lucky! Chinese food all the time - all I got was meat loaf and the dreaded salmon loaf. Don't get me wrong, I love salmon, but something evil happens to it when made into a casserole. I can’t even look at meat loaf to this very day.

WC: It was pretty hot. That's the beauty of most oriental food - they balance and contrast textures and tastes, and those Tien Tsin peppers are from satan's garden. Technically the Habanera is the hottest, but to me the Tien Tsin has it beat. Odd how the smaller the pepper the more punch it seems to pack…

Oh Kid! You're killing me. The post and the comments. HAHAHAHA! I love Chinese restaurants because they always have such delightful decor. The one my parents have been going to for the pas zillion years the original orange plastic chairs and other such lovelies. Nothing has changed in 20 years, maybe more.

Did you take pics of the potatoes on coals trick you did?

Cherry: I loved the Oriental restaurants in Germany - there was just something funny about speaking German to a Chinese woman to order your food. It was a real international event.
